Product Details

Philips AVENT comfort breast shells protect sore, cracked nipples and provide relief from engorgement during or between pumping and nursing. The ventilated inner shell, padded by a soft silicone cushion, gently presses on the areola, creating a slow trickle of milk. The outer shell prevents leaks, holding the milk until it can be collected or discarded. The silicone shells and pads can be sterilized in any Philips AVENT sterilizer or by boiling.

Shields Sore, Cracked Nipples
Philips AVENT comfort breast shells create a shield for nipples tender from breastfeeding. The soft silicone backing cushion fits snugly into your bra to protect you from chafing. The outer shell fits on top of the inner shell to hold released milk.

Collect Milk While Nursing or Pumping
While feeding or pumping, the closed breast shells can be placed against the non-nursing breast. Gentle pressure on the areola allows for a slow release of milk, easing engorgement and collecting the leaked milk for later feeding. A pouring spout aids in transferring milk to a sterilized bottle.

Release Between Feedings to Relieve Pressure
Comfort breast shells can also be worn between feedings to release a small amount of milk, relieving the discomfort and pressure of unexpressed milk. Only milk collected while pumping or feeding should be fed to your baby, as milk collected over a long period of time can become contaminated.

Easy to Sterilize
The shells and backing cushions can be sterilized with any Philips AVENT steam sterilizer or by boiling. Comfort breast shells should not be worn for more than 40 minutes at a time due to a risk of excess pressure on milk ducts.

What's in the Box
Two Philips AVENT comfort breast shells, two non-ventilated breast milk saver shells, and two backing cushions.

  • Title: disappointed

For the most part I am extremely pleased with avent products, which is probably why I was so disappointed in these breast shields. My mother gave me a pair of breast shields she used while nursing my sister 15 years ago and the avent breast shields did not even compare. They are only good for wearing while you are nursing and the rubber ring does not make the best seal to the plastic shield. You cannot move around very much while wearing the plastic shields that have holes for ventilation, which is a hinderance while taking care of baby. Since I leak throughout the day, these do not work too well for me.

  • Title: Great for mothers who pump

With three and five year old children at home, I found it difficult to let my breasts air out for any period of time. Worn inside my bra, the ventilated breast shells allowed me to keep my nipples dry and expedited the healing process. Now that I am back to work full time and breastfeeding exclusively, the milk savers have been a tremendous help. I place one on the opposite breast that I am pumping and it collects the milk that leaks out - usually about an ounce or two. The milk that is collected allows me to cut dowm on my pumping time - and prevents any leakage through the breast pad. I highly recommend this product along with the entite Avent line to all mothers.

They kind of worked but the soft backings made me itch and the little stoppers on the shells looked funny under shirts.... Later I tried Ameda's Breast Shells, they are A LOT better!! Check those out before you purchase Avent's Breastshells!!!!

  • Title: They get the job done

I use these in the morning with the first feeding because I leak on whatever side my daughter is not nursing from. I use them more so the milk doesn't go to waste than to protect my clothing. If I used them for protection of clothing or for sore nipples I would not have rated them as high as I did. First, they are not made for really large breasts. They set nicely over the nipple, but certainly do not cover much more than the areola area. If I were to wear these out, my breasts would look like large mushrooms. They are nice in the privacy of my own home, though. The shell that fits on the breast is comfortable. It is easy to clean and soft. I would recommend these for the use of collecting leaking milk while pumping and feeding only. I would not recommend these to wear out when you are going to miss a feeding and know you will leak. Wear disposable pads. Also, I wouldn't recommend them for the sore nipple problem either if you are large breasted.

  • Title: Great for overactive letdown

If you're like me and have large breasts and overactive letdown, the shells can be used to collect breastmilk prior to feeding your child. Then your breasts aren't as "full" (helps relieve pressure) so your baby doesn't gag and choke and get sprayed from all the pressure when your breasts are overfilled. Also, while you're feeding on one breast, wear the shield on the other. This lets you collect milk for future use and doesn't waste it.

  • Title: Great work "Avent"

When I started breastfeeding besides the pain it was the leaking which I couldn't control. I remember I would hold a bottle to collect the milk, till one day I dropped it all on the floor. So I stopped doing that. One day I went to Babies R Us and saw the Avent shells, I bought it no questions asked and I was so happy that I wished someone had told me about this great product. It's great while nursing and pumping. This product saved me on disposable pads. I have been using it for 4 months and till this day I'm can't be without it. One suggestion make sure you tightly secure the shell and check to make sure you don't fill the shell.

These breastshells are wonderful. They helped me continue to breastfeed as they eased sore and cracked nipples. And I love being able to save the breastmilk that leaks out for use later. Great job, Avent!

  • Title: Best solution

I have a new baby brother, Danny. He was born about three months ago. My mom wanted to breats-feed him because breast-feeding is healthier and is gaining in popularity. However, each time she gave my brother a feeding, I was very happy to help her, but some formula was dribbly and it had leaked on the carpet many times. Later, a friend of ours sent us a present. It was these Avent breastshells because our friend knew that we have a new baby and my mom was breast-feeding and that feedings had caused leaks. Mom tried it and no milk has dropped in weeks. I am so happy to help with my baby brother.

  • Title: How do you spell relief?.....Breastshells!

I put this item on my registry based on reviews from other nursing moms. I didn't know if I would need them as this is my first time being a mom and of course, new to nursing, so I registered for them "just in case". Thankfully my friend bought them for me and at the beginning of the first week my nipples were extremely sore and developing scabs. A lactation consultant recommended exposing my nipples to air as one way to heal them, so I opened the package and my nipples were aired and protected from my bra and clothes rubbing against them. I wore these literally all day and began pumping. In about a week I was healed! I also noticed that as I wore them it collected milk as I fed my baby or during my sleep My son is now 28 months old and I'm expecting baby #2. I only used the breastshells the first few weeks with my son (until my body began to regulate milk production)

  • Title: GREAT except for one thing

I love these breast shells! I use them whenever I breast feed my daughter or on the opposite breast while I pump. It catches all of the leaking milk, sometimes. Once in a while, I don't know if it's the shape of my breast or if the shell is too full, but I've had some milk leak and soak the bottom of my breast pads. Other than that, this is a great product!

  • Title: A Lifesaver!!!

Initially, I purchased the Avent breast pads, thinking they would suffice. However, I found them to be itchy against my already irritated breasts. These breastshells were the answer!!! Not only do they catch all that embarassing leaking milk, but they soothe away irritation!

  • Title: A little overpriced

These were good for sore nipples, although the instructions say not to use them for more than 40 minutes at a time to prevent excessive pressure on your milk ducts. The first 2 - 3 weeks you are sore almost 24 hours a day. I did not have any success on using them to catch leaking milk, as they are not shaped right for all nipple types and the milk leaked out under them into my bra. As for saving the leaked milk, the instructions say that you are only supposed to save the milk you collect during breastfeeding; you are supposed to throw any other milk away, as it could have become contaminated. When my son was about 3 months old I quit leaking altogether, even when he was nursing on the other side, so I never use them anymore. Not the best purchase, but great for the first two weeks or so.

First, I have to give anyone who breatfeed a good for you, it's the best thing for baby. Second, I love this item, I don't feel bad that my malk is going to waste. I pump extra so my husband can feed the baby bottle when he get's home from work and to make extra malk. Not only do I love this item but all the Avent items are great.

  • Title: A Blessing!

I purchased these breast shields not knowing when or if I would use them. I am so glad that I did. My nipples got so sore during the 1st few months of breastfeeding and the shells saved me. They brought instant relief by keeping them protected from anything that touched them (it creates a barrier around them so clothes don't rub), plus they catch any leaking milk. They helped me not to give up breastfeeding.

  • Title: Save up extra milk with no effort!!

Ever since I started using the Medela double pump, I've had a significant amount of leakage from one breast when I'm nursing the baby on the other one. I bought these to solve the problem, which they DID, but there's an even better benefit...I'm storing up extra milk with absolutely no effort!! Each feeding I collect between 1/3 and 1/2 an ounce of milk (I have a newborn that still eats small frequent amts). Keep pouring them together in the fridge This has been a lifesaver for me as a SAHM to three little ones

  • Title: Way too big!

I purchased these in an attempt to find some relief for my sore nipples during the first few weeks of breastfeeding, however, I never used them because they were too big to fit in my bra and they made me look like I had huge tumors on the end of my breasts so there is no way I would wear them in public. Also, the instructions say that you can only wear them for 40 minutes at a time because they can reduce your milk supply--not something you want to be doing during the first weeks when you're trying to get your milk supply up.

  • Title: Clothing Saver

I used these breast shells years ago when I had my daughter. Before I bought them, I drenched every outfit both of us wore at each feeding. My 'opposite' breast leaked right through all the breast pads and all over our clothes. The breast cup proved to be a lifesaver. It collected all that milk that came from the other breast and because I sterilized the breast cups, I was able to save the milk for a later feeding by Daddy. I am expecting again and just purchased this set. It was a 'must have'.

  • Title: Like Them

I found them very comfotable for my sore nipples. They also collect leaking milk...but don't bend over as they will spill all over your feet (my first try). Other than this and having to wear a loose shirt to hide them, I will use them everyday instead of pads that get wet and irritate my nipples.

  • Title: Worked great - looked awkward

When my nipples were sore and cracked, these were great and helped me heal quickly. They also collect a lot of leaking breastmilk, but make sure to check them often because they will leak if they get too full. These looked strange under my clothes I'm glad I had the shells

  • Title: Function over form

They look awful but if you have sore cracked nipples or inverted nipples they are the only thing that will really fix what's wrong. The good news is if you use breast shells when you need them for the above mentioned maladies- you won't have to use them for long because you will heal after just a few days even if you wear them part time. They come with little curved white sponges that you just drop in the bottom of the shell. These sponges absorb the milk that leaks so that you don't have to worry about it comming out of the vent holes at the top when you bend over. I just would rinse them with soap and water to clean and let air dry I think each breast shell set come with four sponges and you can buy more if you need them but 4 was enough for me. NOTE: don't use them to collect milk to give to your baby as one reviewer suggested. The milk collected in a breast shell is to be discarded as it states in the package instructions.

  • Title: Great Help To Me

These breastshells helped me during pregnancy and post. During pregnancy they helped draw out my flat, and what I know now as small nipples. Post-pregnancy they helped relieve engorgement because they exert a small amount of pressure on the areola. This helped my baby latch on better b/c the breast wasn't soooo full. (I have a lot of milk). The shells catch milk really well, and if they are sterile you can even save the milk. The other great thing about these breastshells is that they prevent sore nipples from rubbing on your bra. I'd put a little lansinoh on my nipples

  • Title: An OK product

I bought the Avent Breastshells because of my sore nipples, and a way to collect leaking milk while I was not nursing, and relieve some engorment. 1. It is very messy when removing the colleting cap 2. My nipples are still sore 3. And the only way to relieve engorment pain is to nurse or to pump If I would have known about these factors I would not have purchased this product!"

  • Title: Saved from Stopping Nursing!

For my first breastfed baby these were my salvation. It helped relieve soreness while breast is in bra. It keeps the sore nipple suspended in midair and off of rubbing on your bra. It also helps the nipple stick out a little, which I found made attachment (of baby's mouth to nipple)easier as a first time breast-feeder. You do need to check the shield now and then to dump out any milk (or some may save it). The only way I see a product could improve in that area, would be to have a bottle size attachment to your boob and whom of us would really want to walk around with that? There are holes in the top of the shield to allow air circulation. For me esp. at night I would put a nursing pad over the holes so that it would help soak up any leakage. But by FAR this product is worth it. I'm due soon with baby #2 and am back to buy more. I gave mine to a mom friend who was ready to give up breastfeeding her very hungry son who ate all the time and her breasts were unbearably sore. She swears these shields are the reason she didn't have to give up and is extremely grateful. Definitely worth the try!"

  • Title: Helped me get started

These were a huge help getting started on my first baby. I bought them on a whim and boy was a glad. They help get my milk started because they apply a light pressure which also helps extent the nipple. They keep things (such as a bra) from rubbing against very very sore nipples. Another great feature is the air vents at the top of the cups. They are there to get air to nipple, (you don't want them getting dried out, that just makes the pain of feeding much worse). Determined breastfeeding mom's these are fantastic until your milk supply comes in at a steady pace. They do not look flattering under a TIGHT fitting shirt (loose is always best anyways) but what does when you are breastfeeding for the first few months as things are adjusting. I felt that they looked better that two huge wet spots from leakage."

  • Title: Awesome product!

These shells work really well in early breastfeeding to occasionally protect sore nipples. They also work for increasing milk supply throughout the day without added pumping. I use them to collect milk on the opposite side during my nightly feedings, and have stored up a lot of milk that way. The only reason they got 4 stars is because they are kind of hard and sometimes feel kind of obvious under certain clothing.

  • Title: ok - nothing great

this has helped, but I am not thrilled. I cant wear it for too long - the pressure it puts hurts if I wear it for more than 30-40 minutes or so. I'd prefer something I can wear atleast for a few hours - maybe a whole day and give my sore nipples a break - but thats not possible with this one.

It has 2 main uses: 1) great for sore nipples. You can use it for a couple of hours to improve healing 2) When i breastfeed my baby i use it in the breast that is not in ""use"". By the time my son finish with the other breast it has collected a lot of milk!!"

  • Title: They're okay...

They actually work better than I thought, but don't plan on going anywhere with them (because they make you look absolutely huge), and sleeping with them doesn't really work either. They have to be emptied often or else the milk gets all over the place.

  • Title: Very Handy!

I wish I'd had this with my first child! I use them to collect the leaking milk while I am breastfeeding, usually close to 2oz. Don't get me wrong they do leak milk all over if I leak too much but they are comfortable & easy to use & clean. Much better than holding a cup/bottle to catch the extra milk - MUCH more descrete & less laundry than all the nursing pads I would be using. These make it very easy for me to put milk away for future use.

  • Title: Not what I hoped

I ordered these because I had very sore nipples after nursing my daughter. I knew that exposing the nipple to air was supposed to help, so I thought these would work. However, I wasn't able to wear them. The shells are quite large, so unless you have a bra that is at least 2 cup sizes bigger than what you normally wear, they press into your breasts and become uncomfortable in a few minutes. I didn't want to order larger bras, so I couldn't use these. I never used the shells for catching leaked milk, so I can't comment on if that aspect of them.

  • Title: Awesome!!!

This is one of the best breastfeeding products I have ever tried. Especially usefull for the first few weeks. They keep clothing off of sensitive nipples, which makes things much more comfortable. They also allowed me to collect several ounces of breastmilk at each feeding to freeze for later. that liquid gold would have gone to waste otherwise!! I have told all of my pregnant friends to get them and will be recommending them to everyone who will listen. more than worth the money!

  • Title: A must-have for breastfeeding moms

This is one of my favorite breastfeeding items ever. Pros: - I use these in place of nursing pads which saves me lots of money. One box of pads costs about the same as these shells. I have been breastfeeding for 3 weeks using these and only used pads twice (since I was wearing a tighter shirt). - The soft flexible back of the shell makes it pretty comfortable to wear. - The shell keeps your nipple from touching anything - I wear one on the side I am not nursing from and milk collects in it - I can then add it to my fridge collection. Cons: - They can look odd if you wear them with tighter clothing. If you have a padded bra - The cover with the holes at the top is pretty useless - you won't get much airflow because your bra holds them in place anyway - If you use lanolin if will get all gooey on the back of the breast shell. This is to be expected though. You can get it off by washing in warm

  • Title: These work okay...

These worked all right for me. I bought these to collect milk as an alternative to using a bottle when I fed my son at night. I cannot use these on my one side because I leak more on that side and the shells would be too full and milk would start to overflow. Then, when I would go to take it out of my bra milk would spill out since they were so full. Also, If you don't sit up straight they will also leak milk. So, I have now gone back to using a bottle to collect excess milk.

I ordered these for my daughter. She had very raw nipples---couldn't stand even fabric on them. She has/had Yeast (Candida) infection and they were so painful she was in tears for days. These shields were a life saver. Others have complained that they don't look great or that they leak and she hasn't had this problem. I guess it depends on why you want them. But if you are in pain and need to air out your nipples and keep moisture and friction away these are great. She couldn't say enough good about them. So I can't even hesitate to recommend them if you are having serious pain issues these are Definitely worth a try."

  • Title: These work ok, but...

These do save mik and allow your nipples to breathe, but there are things to consider before trying... If you have short nipples you should be aware of the following: - The back piece has a hole that is not flush with the breast. It is about 1/3 inch from the base of the nipple at the areola - You have to wear a nursing pad over the bottom of these for the reason listed above If you have large breasts you should be aware of the following: - These are not shallow - These will really press into your breasts and may get uncomfortable for anything over 10 minutes. For all gals with any sized breasts - You can only wear them 40 minutes at a time - When I rest one of these shells in my hand it is bigger than my palm - An hour after I used these my left breast had sharp pains I gave 3 stars because they do what they say

i was not fully awake (caring for a newborn and all) when i ordered these and thought i was ordering extra breast cushions for my pump (which would be nice) so clearly i did not read carefully and was surprised by what i got. However, i am thrilled because i also was looking for something like this (a different name was recommended) and these work great. when i pump or nurse i leak on the other side. When nursing i would soak myself and my daughter and pumping was not much better, at least my little girl wouldn't be soaked. :-) using these i typically catch an ounce in them which is worth so much to me. my daughter doesn't seem to notice that she isn't getting soaked, she didn't seem to care before but i sure did. i'm so happy with them that i came back to order an extra set for my emergency pump kit for the car. i do enjoy saying its my best accidental purchase so far :-) -Traci (using shared hubbys account)"

Although I LOVE Avent products, this is WASTE! I had huge boobs when I nursed, I was a 42F. If you're smaller, they may work better, but for me, they wouldnt stay in place, and were not comforable to wear, nor did they work. Once the milk came in, they would slide down. Tell me how someone can hold baby to nurse in one hand, and for me, I had to hold my nipple down so my son wouldnt get his nose smooshed. AND hold this cup in place! • Title: Finally, a solution!

I tried the washable nursing pads. They always leaked through or moved off the nipple to allow milk to get on my shirt (embarrassing!) I tried the O-Cal cups and when I bent over (which one tends to do with an infant), the milk leaked through the air hole. These Avent cups have the option to either have the vents or not. I always wear the "not" as they don't leak when I bend over. They still have that Madonna-esque cone-shape look, and may be cause for an up-sized bra, but they're comfortable with the rubber backing (like reverse of what's on the Avent pump) and they keep my shirt dry!

  • Title: Not for everyday wear

It's quite possibly the sleep-deprivation causing me to have missed a complete description of these, but upon receiving them the instructions say they can only be worn 40 minutes at a time. So they are not a solution for persistent milk leaking; they are really only for collecting leaks while nursing/pumping the opposite side. They're ridiculous-looking and huge so there's no way you would wear these out of the house anyway; not even around the house in my opinion! I found them difficult to position and keep in place - you probably need a tight fitting bra/top. It's also quite awkward to pour the collected milk out of these. So even for their intended purpose I'm not sure they are great; however What worked for me instead was to use Lilypadz Silicone Nursing Pads to prevent leaking from happening at all until I'm ready to nurse/pump that side."

I dealt with engorgement when my milk came in after the birth of my first child. These breast shells were my saving grace and helped me deal with the pain of sore nipples and even slightly helped with easing the engorgement issue as well. While they are not overly comfortable (they are plastic), they offer relief and I have continued to use them through breast feeding and the inevitable sore nipples that resurface at times.

  • Title: Well worth it

This has got to be one of my best investments having a new baby. Being a first time mom I wasn't sure what exactly to expect and there really is no way of knowing what is to come. When my milk came in I was so engorged. Nothing helped like they said it would so I put on the shells in a last effort for relief. Hallelujah!! I didn't realize the shells applied just enough pressure to release some of the milk and collect it. I was so happy to not have to wear pads that get wet and nasty against your skin and the money saved there was great. I do wear pads when going out in public as the shells are not the most flattering things. The shells collect the milk and it can be saved for your back up stash. In the beginning while your nipples are toughening up for prolonged ""attention"" the shells protect them from being touched or rubbing on clothing. Only negatives I have found is that you need to clean them often and that especially at night when they fill up

These are the best inventions for breastfeeding moms! When I first started breastfeeding When I am engorged in pain at night I wish I knew about these when I was still pregnant - I dealt with crazy engorgement pain when my milk first came in. I was crying when calling the lactation hotlines. Back then I was in so much pain and was so sleep deprived that I could not process any advice. I wonder what it would have been like if I had these shells back then! Overall I highly recommend this product!"

I was looking forward to collecting any let down breast milk. After wearing these shells for a night, the silicone shell left these itchy welts on my breasts that haven't gone away after 2 days. :(. If you look at the silicone part it has a weird yellow tinge to the silicone. I'm going back to my Medela soft shells. They were made in Switzerland and the silicone looks clear not yellow tinged."

  • Title: Worth it

I ordered these because of leaking issues. They come in handy when breastfeeding or pumping and you can "catch" all the drops of milk specially if you have supply issues. They are comfortable to wear around the house but not for outside wearing. They serve the purpose they were created to do.

maybe it's because I dont have a long torso but I found this product much more comfortable than the milk saver. Unless breast milk is flowing abundantly, the Avent Breast shells is much more reasonable and cheaper to boot

These things work for women who are nursing or planning to nurse. Without going into detail, not everyone is the perfect shape for nursing. These help over time to adjust that problem. They can be worn during pregnancy too so that nursing goes easier at the start.

  • Title: Tried and failed

I purchased these to attempt to use with my breast pump (Medela Freestyle) to ease the pain and to wear at night. Neither worked. The did not fit on the flanges and I lost a lot of milk when I attempted to use them with the pump. When I attempted to wear them to ease pain and collect breast milk, that also failed. The shape is weird (which means they cannot be worn without being very noticeable) and they seemed to leak no matter what I did. On top of that, they actually made me more sore. I would not recommend purchasing these.

I have purchased these breast shields twice, they are that good! the only reason i have it 4 of 5 starts is the cups with the ventilation holes, i tend to forget that when there is milk in the cup, i can't bend over, there by spilling milk in my bra and shirt. not a biggie, so just know that these shields will save your nipples from soreness and cracking!

I bought these breast shells especially for the breast shields - to put on the pump for added comfort when expressing - i couldn't find it sold separately. Only to find out that it doesn't fit on the Advent pump - its a little too big in diameter :( I was so disappointed!

  • Title: Complaint. I edited my review but the final version was not the edited version. Not happy. Can you see my edited review please.E

The Breast shells arrived within 10 days of ordering. They were a bit bigger than I imagined but very soft and comfortable. Absolutely suited the purpose of supporting the nipple after reconstructive surgery for one very flat and one inverted nipple. The surgery gave me a fantastic result and I didn't want to compromise it.The shields keep the nipples protected from clothing rubbing across them as the nipples can be a bit hypersensitive after surgery. The protective nature of the shields feels really comforting. The shape of the shields is very good and they are worn inside the bra you usually wear. Not the best for clothes with finer fabrics or light colours as they look a bit pointy but the look is fine with a darker t-shirt or a jumper. After this type of surgery it is also important to massage the nipples regularly with a sorboline type cream as scar tissue can form around the incision areas at 9, 6 and 3 o'clock, and this can sometimes affect the final result. I'm in my fifties. My husband is a G.P. I'm so glad I had this surgery. It was nothing to worry about, took about and hour and a quarter under light anasthetic and recovery was unremarkable.I wish I had had it done years ago. I'm glad my husband found this product online.

  • Title: I reach for something else

I used these only to remain dry while my baby was nursing the other side. I reach for the nurse-dri shells that I received for free in the hospital first. These are big and bulky and I hate the design of them compared to other shells. I only reach these when my other shells are dirty. Plus i hate that they only recommend these for a certain length of time.

I ordered these for my daughter after a different brand disappointed. These came just in time. They worked very well. The backs are softer silicone (?) and they were easy to clean. You can wash and scald these so they are clean enough to save the milk for a later feeding (make sure you refrigerate or freeze it promptly). They are easy to empty, there is a pour spout in the bottom. There are tops with holes for ventilation and tops that are solid collect the milk that lets down early in a feeding. As with any breast shells

  • Title: Works Great

It does exactly what it says, yes it makes you look like you have cone boobs but seriously, it's not a beauty product and it works wonderfully. They don't fit over your entire boob, but they're not made to, they do provide relief from sore cracked nipples and they're pretty effective in catching your leaking milk, it can be tricky to save the milk from spilling when you take these off but it's not rocket science. I like them a lot, they're definitely helping save my milk and making my baby plumper :)

  • Title: Meh

I used these a few years ago with my second baby, and it didn't seem to have as much information on the product at the time. I used it for the protection it gave my messed up nipples after feedings, and for short periods of time, I preferred this over the further irritation of a nursing pad right after a feeding. But I think wearing it more than a few minutes between feedings stimulated further engorgement (it seemed like the fit was constantly putting pressure to express milk, which I was told later actually sends a message to your body to make more milk...). I can't remember how long I wore them after feedings to relieve nipple pain, because the feedings were ALL THE FREAKING TIME, and sometimes if my kids fell asleep afterwards, I forgot them on (they were not uncomfortable initially). Mainly, I would recommend only using these for very short periods of time. I will probably try them again with my next child

This product is difficult to hold in place, spills easily while removing from the breast, does not pour easily into a bottle or bag, and does not hold very much milk. Milkies Milk Saver is soooooo much better there is not comparison. I highly recommend trying Milkies instead of wasting your money on this product.

  • Title: Ahhhhh Relief

Finally relief for my poor boobs! As a mom who breastfeeds it can be tough when your nipples are sore or cracked. These provide relief from your bra or breast pad rubbing and allows air to get to your nipple to allow it to heal. I put nipple cream on my sore nipples and then wear these breast shields to get a break! Definitely a must if you are breastfeeding!

I've even started sending them to my pregnant friends. Can't stress how much I loved these!!

  • Title: Good product, but not for healing cracked nipples

I bought these to assist me with healing a badly cracked nipple. It was suggested that I leave the nipple to the air and I thought these would assist me with that and still let me keep my shirt on. Like other users commented, the shells are obvious under clothes, but that didn't really bother me. There are two issues that I have. First, the shells are more designed to assist with eliminating engorgement. They are designed to put pressure on the tissue surrounding the nipple and drain milk. As such, they were constantly filling up with milk and if I didn't empty them frequently enough, I would spill milk all over my shirt (and sometimes my son as I bent to pick him up) requiring frequent costume changes. Second, the instructions recommend wearing the shells for no more than 40 minutes at a time due to the pressure placed on your breast from them. While the shells worked great for preventing engorgement, they were useless for trying to heal my cracked nipple. If you are looking for engorgement relief, then I highly recommend them. If you're trying to heal cracked nipples, pass on these for a different product.

  • Title: Good for flat or inverted nipples. Kind of show under clothing though

I bought these and the Medela SoftShell Breast Shells for Sore or Inverted nipples. I would say the Medela's are better for keeping your bra off your nipples. They're great if you're sore or want to get more air to your nipples. The Avent are better for flat or inverted nipples. I opening of the Avent shells is much smaller so it almost keeps your nipples pushed out, however, the Avent definiately show under your bra much more easily. The Medela are more shallow and the opening over your nipples is bigger so it's almost as if the nipple and the areola are getting aired out. Both are comfortable and I forget I'm wearing them. I use both. I use the Avent around the house and make the initial latch easier, and I wear the Medela out because they don't show as easily under clothing. The Avent do come with solid shells too so they can be used to catch milk from the non-nursing breast during letdown too. If you don't have the solid shells on then remember, don't bend over :) The Medela come with little foam absorption pads to catch milk from letdown but you can't really collect milk in the Medela's. So it really depends on your purpose for the shells.
